Originating in the era of the Samurai, the Mizuhiki technique was first used to tie warriors’ hair with twisted paper cords. After the Samurai period, it evolved into a traditional Japanese decorative art for wrapping gifts and ceremonial envelopes.
While living in Tokyo, I attended a Mizuhiki workshop out of curiosity for Japanese craftsmanship, and it was there that I found the inspiration for this collection. Through byLUDO, this centuries-old technique has been reimagined as a contemporary, eco-sustainable jewellery collection.
